Walking poles may also prove useful. To begin with, a walk along the southeastern shore of Sørvágsvatn awaits us. Several beautiful viewpoints await us along the route. A must-see is the ascent of Trælanípa, an escarpment from which slaves unable to continue working were thrown in the past. In good weather, there is a great view of the islands of Koltur and Hestur, among others, and even the shores of Sandoy.

From Trælanípa we will head to the Bøsdalafossur waterfall. We'll approach the point from which its cascade can be seen in its full glory. This is also a great spot for a picnic. On the way back we will visit the statue of Nykur - the sinister spirit of the lake, who, in the form of a beautiful steed, kidnaps his victims into the depths of Sørvágsvatn. The sculpture, actually a metalwork by Pólo Skarðenni, has adorned the northern shore of the lake since 2017.

Duration: 6h

Price: 170 euro/per person

Price includes:

Trail entrance fee

All-day pilot care

Warm drinks and snacks

The price does not include:

Insurance

The Faroe Islands' largest freshwater reservoir has gained fame for its optical illusion.
