After more than two years of intensive construction work, the new sports and entertainment hall in Hoyvík is ready! From the signing of the contract in September 2022 to today's handover ceremony, many challenging months have passed, but the end result is very impressive.
Work began in December 2022 and progressed at an express pace in the following months - from earthworks and concrete, to the installation of the steel structure, to the electrical and HVAC systems. In June 2024, the hall reached its final shape, and today, 15 February 2025, it was officially opened.
Impressive numbers and capabilities
The new 8,500 m² hall is a venue designed for a wide variety of events - from concerts to sports competitions. Here are some of its highlights:
4,700 spectators at concerts
2,200 seats at sporting events + additional standing areas
637 parking spaces
50 km of installations providing heating, ventilation and energy
200 tonnes of steel, 300 tonnes of reinforcement and 10,000 tonnes of concrete to ensure the durability and safety of the structure
1,600 m² of glass, 8,000 m² of elegant floors and 11,000 m² of meticulously finished walls that give the interior a spacious and modern look
And that's just the start of the excitement!
On 12 March, the first handball match will take place in the hall - Faroe Islands vs the Netherlands. And soon afterwards a great musical event - a concert by Bryan Adams!
Oh, it's happening!
Congratulations to the Farerians you should be proud. Many can envy us such an arena.
