Farer's Golden Triangle. If you were to see just three Faroese towns, without a shadow of a doubt the choice should fall on Saksun, Tjørnuvík and Gjógv. Each impresses with its unique beauty, while their combination is the Faroe Islands in a nutshell.

Saksun – Tjørnuvík – Gjógv

  • Meeting place: to be agreed

We will begin our tour with a visit to Gjógv, a picturesque village in the north of the island of Eysturoy. The village owes its name to the vast gorge here, which for centuries served as a safe haven sheltered from the wind and waves for the locals. Today, it's the village's main tourist attraction, so be sure to go right down to check out the local acoustics. Trekking enthusiasts will enjoy the trail, along the cliffs above the gorge, which offers views of both the village and the opposite Kalsoy Island.

From Gjógv we will drive along an exciting mountain route to the village of Eiði. On the way, we'll stop at a viewpoint from which we can admire two prominences - the Giant and the Witch. These are legendary trolls who came to the Faroe Islands from Iceland to drag the archipelago towards the home island. Fortunately, their attempts came to nothing, and the rising sun mercilessly turned them into two boulders. While on Eiði, we'll stop to see the local soccer field - one of the most interestingly located in the world. The turf, which stretches between the ocean and the lake, proved not to be very practical and so today it is only used as a camping ground.

From Eiði, we will head south along the western coast of Eysturoy and then cross a bridge to the neighboring island of Streymoy. Streymoy is the largest island of all of Eysturoy, and its northern views are second to none. We will drive to the fairy-tale village of Tjørnuvík, hooking up with the 140-meter Fossá waterfall. It is extremely impressive, especially during heavy rainfall. In Tjørnuvík we'll poke around the village, walk along the volcanic beach, from which we'll again see the Giant and the Witch - this time from a different perspective, then stop by one of the local Farers for delicious waffles with rhubarb jam and whipped cream. If we have enough strength after eating these delicacies, we will climb to the viewpoint above the village to admire all the

From Tjørnuvík we will head to Saksun. Frames from this village regularly appear on Faroese postcards and calendars. Saksun is a tiny town with only eleven permanent residents. The local whitewashed church was moved here from Tjørnuvík! Today it's hard to believe that the brave Farers carried parts of the building over the steep mountains. An extremely photogenic element of the village is the open-air museum made up of old farm buildings - Dúvugarður. The grassy roofs of the wooden buildings are quintessentially Farer. Weather permitting, we will walk down to the beach, and climb the trail above the settlement to see the local Pollurin lagoon from a mountain perspective.
