KALSOY – with a visit to James Bond
- Gathering place: ferry terminal in Klaksvík
- Start time: 14:15
Ever since the lighthouse on Kalsoy was featured on the cover of the prestigious National Geographic Traveller magazine, the island has become one of the Faroe Islands' biggest tourist attractions. Subsequently, tourist traffic was boosted by the appearance of a statue of a female seal, as well as a film crew filming the 25th part about the adventures of Agent 007. Kalsoy is a must-see on your stay in the Faroe Islands!
Due to the ferry's summer schedule, tours run Monday through Friday.
A twenty-minute ferry ride awaits from Klaksvík to Kalsoy. After disembarking in Syðradalur, we will go straight north to the village of Trøllanes. It is here that the trail to the famous Kallurin lighthouse begins. It takes about 60 - 75 minutes to reach the lighthouse. On the spot outside the lighthouse is a memorial plaque dedicated to James Bond, as it was the area around Kallurin that served as a film set for the super-production “No Time to Die.” We will spend the next hour surrounded by beautiful cliffs and nearby capes. After returning to Trøllanes, we'll take a look at the kiosk at the end of the world, where there will be an opportunity to buy products from local farmers.
The next point on the route will be the picturesque settlement of Mikladalur, where a statue of a female seal was erected in August 2014. This unusual figure relates to a local legend, which you will learn. In Mikladalur we will also visit one of the few forest plantations in the archipelago, which is a pleasant place for a picnic.
Returning south, we will take a look at the church in the village of Húsar. The church contains many beautiful and traditional elements, and the bright interior is kept in a Protestant spirit. From Húsar we will drive to Syðradalur, from where we will take the evening ferry back to Klaksvík.
