G!festival - an amazing event
2024-07-26What to pack for the Faroe Islands?
2024-11-12Have you ever wondered what the Faroe Islands taste like?
I've picked out 5 restaurants that I think you'll love!
For me, travelling is about discovering new places with my palate as well. I just love trying the local cuisine wherever I go! It's such a great way to experience new flavours. I'd love to know if this is true for you too!
I've been lucky enough to live in the Faroe Islands for almost 20 years, and I know the cuisine very well. In our Polish-Faroese home, I cook up a storm, whipping up both native and Faroese dishes for my wonderful family, friends and the lovely tourists renting our cosy cottage. I've also had the pleasure of visiting all the places with delicious food on the islands, and today I'm excited to share with you a few that I think you'll absolutely love!
Are your taste buds ready for a delicious trip? I hope so! Grab your napkins (they'll come in handy while reading this!), and let's go!
1. ANGUST
This is a place that Farerians absolutely adore, especially families with children! Both places are really popular for good reason! The one in Torshavn and the other one in Klaksvik are great for good value for money.
When you get here, you've got to try the steaks! There are so many delicious types to choose from. Angust also serves up some delicious burgers and the Faroe Islands' famous smoked salmon, which is a must-try! If you stop by without the kids, you've got to try the local craft beer Kaggaøl Føroya and Baraldur or Einar's gin!
2. ROKS
Dreaming of a little luxury? Ahoy there! Come on in and say hello to ROKS! Here, you can get a little taste of the big wide world! This lovely restaurant is located in Tórshavn and is perfect for anyone who loves a bit of luxury! You'll get to taste some delicious Greenlandic crab, sea urchin, langoustines, blue mussels and perfectly prepared cod. ROKS is all about the best seafood from the Faroe Islands, cooked to perfection using modern and classic techniques, and served with a smile.
3. BARBARA FISH HOUSE
My absolute favourite restaurant is the gorgeous Barbara Fish House. It's housed in a charming place with a grass roof, and the food is simply divine! The menu is full of delicious local treats, including mussels, smoked salmon, fresh scallops and French fish soup bouillabaise, which is poured from a teapot straight to your plate. And don't forget to treat yourself to some ice cream for dessert! I never deny myself ice cream, and I don't think you should either! I promise you'll thank me later! ;)
4. ETIKA SUSHI
All your favourite Japanese delicacies, from hosomaki, uramaki to futomaki and more! When you ask me about the best sushi in the Islands, I'll tell you without a moment's hesitation! ETIKA! We love going to the new second place in Runavik so much more often now because it's closer and always on the way! ;)
You'll love the fresh fish, tasty side dishes and beautifully served rolls!
5. KAFFIHUSID
It's a lovely little café where you can enjoy a delicious breakfast, homemade pastries and a cup of good coffee. I just love sitting outside with an aromatic espresso and taking in the gorgeous views! It's like you're in Venice (but only slightly cooler, hehe). And if you're feeling really indulgent, why not treat yourself to a slice of that delicious, locally baked cake or one of those gorgeous French macarons? You'll be in complete bliss! I think we can all agree that a day like this is bound to be a good one! :)
P.S. There's also a lovely souvenir shop on site – perfect if you're looking for Faroese souvenirs for yourself and your loved ones.
I'd love to know which one you'll go to first! Please, take a look at my Instagram and Facebook profiles and let me know which one you've picked!
